1938 - enrolled at Victoria College of Arts and Science. 1940 - rescued from Dunkirk as a private in the Royal Army Service Corps. 1946 - enrolled at the Southport School of Arts and Crafts. 1948 - was engaged to illustrate the parish magazine, Anvil. 1950 - Eagle magazine launched and includes Dan Dare comic strip. 1961 - left the Eagle and undertook small freelance jobs. 1970 - developed cancer of the trachea. 1978 - sat for an Open University degree. 1975 - at the biannual Lucca comics convention was awarded the Yellow Kid award and declared ‘prestigioso maestro’.
