1874 - John Baker entered into a partnership with Thomas Burnett, creating John Baker and company at Conisbrough. 1903 - moved to Kilnhurst steel works, Rotherham. 1904 - John Baker died and the business was continued by his son. 1920 - became a limited company. 1927 - took over Harrison and Camm Limited. 1930s - took over Henry Bessemer Limited and became Baker and Bessemer Limited. During both world wars, the Kilnhurst works produced munitions for the war effort. George Baker commissioned Stanhope Forbes to paint The Munition Girls
