AJ Balcombe Ltd. formed in 1917 by Alfred Balcombe; name changed to Alba in 1960 (formerly a trademark used on radios and televisions); went into receivership in June 1982; when active was a significant contributor to the development of the British radio and television industry. NOTE: Harvard International plc (Argos) bought Alba in 1982, Alba Plc was floated on the stock market in 1987. In 2008 Alba Plc reverted to its former name of Harvard International plc. Argos still own and use Bush and Alba brand names (2009).
