1937 - Henry Phillip Folland purchases British Marine Aircraft Company in Hamble, near Southampton. Changes the name to Folland Aircraft Company. Folland made parts for the following bomber aircraft: Bristol Blenheim and Bristol Beaufort, de-Havilland Mosquito, and Vickers Wellington. Folland also made parts for Supermarine Spitfire fighter aircraft. He designed a number of aircraft, the most famous being the Folland Gnat. Unfortunately, he was unable to see the Gnat's 1955 first test flight. The Gnat was a modifcation of his 1954 Folland Midge.
