Great Central Railway 1897 - 1922

The Great Central Railway was the name given to Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway in 1897 in anticipation of the opening of the London extension that linked Sheffield to London via Nottingham and Leicester. It was granted parliamentary permission in 1893 and the first traffic to go on the railway was in 1898. In the 1923 grouping it was grouped into the LNWR.
