1762 - apprenticed to a watchmaker at Versailles. 1775 - set up his own business on Quai de l'Horloge, Ile de la cité in Paris. 1810 - conceived and developed the first wristwatch. Responsible for the development of the successful self-winding perpétuelle watches, the introduction of the gongs for repeating watches and the first shock-protection for balance pivots.
