1951 - trained in Pathology

1954 - appointed Asbestos Research Fellow at the Pneumoconiosis Research Unit, in Johannesburgh.

1960 - published “Diffuse pleural mesothelioma and asbestos exposure in the North-Western Cape province”, in the Br. J. Indust. Med. (Wagner, J.C., Sleggs, C.A., Marchand, P. 1960, 17: 260-271). An important paper in which the relationship between pleural mesothelioma and asbestos exposure was established and mesothelioma was accepted as a separate pathological entity.

1962 - moved to the MRC Pneumoconiosis Research Unit at Llandough Hospital, Wales

1988 - retired from research
