1838 - built Archimedes. 1840 - built SS Novelty to demonstrate propeller improvements. 1846 - along with Byron George Rowles and William Goodwin Crowder, conveyed and assigned the Novelty to their creditors. 1849 - partnership (Wimshurst & Christian of Ratcliffe Cross Dock) with Thomas Christian dissolved by mutual assent. 1850 - took out patents for improvements in steam engines, in the propelling (13,340) and in the construction of ships and vessels. 1864 - awarded patent for improvements in fitting screw propellers for propelling ships.
