Atkinson traveled to London from Cumberland with recipes he had concocted, along with bear's grease balm.

fragrances, toiletries and cosmetics were made at the Eonia Works, Southwark Park Road, Rotherhithe, London.

1832 - moved from 44 Gerrard Street to 24 Old Bond Street, corner of Burlington Gardens and trading as James and Edward Atkinson.

The most successful product was a hair pomade made with bear grease that remained in production until after World War 1. Atkinsons' logo was a chained bear.

1926 - Atkinson's Building built at 2-4 Burlington Gardens, London.
