Also called George 'Graveyard' Walker 1829-licentiate of Society of Apothecaries, 1831-member of Royal College of Surgeons; 1835-1836 studied at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London and Hôtel Dieu, Paris; 1837 - set up medical practice at 101 Drury Lane; 1839 - published 'Gatherings from Graveyards' which sought to prove the connection between disease and burial; publications helped secure parliamentary select committe on intramural burials. Campaigned for the removal ofburials in towns.
