Authorised on 16 July 1846. The London & North Western Railway and Midland Railway took a joint lease from 1 July 1852, but the Midland Railway was authoised in 1860 to build the Rowsley-Buxton section. It was finally fully absorbed by the Midland Railway with effect from 1 July 1871.
