Model of front part of adult skull, illustrating gross overdevelopment of mandible, cleft palate, hare lip and lack of maxillary development, showing effect on dentition, on stand prepared by D.Greer Walker, 1962

Shown on the top left is a model of the front part of a female adult skull. It features facial and skull malformations. The model shows the overdevelopment of the lower jaw, cleft palate (where the roof of the mouth does not fully form), hare lip (the top lip has a split that does not form) and lack of upper jaw development. The model illustrates the effects of these conditions on teeth development and their arrangement in the mouth. It was created by dentist and oral surgeon Dr Desmond Greer Walker (1911-87).
