This balance made by Breithaupt & Sohn made in Kassel, Germany was used by Dr Andrew Ure (1778-1857). Professor of chemistry at Anderson College, Glasgow (1804-30), he published a 'Dictionary of Chemistry' in 1832. Later he was a research chemist for the British government. His work included analytical chemistry for the Board of Customs.
