XC/T imaging detector from gamma camera system, used to provide close proximity tomographic brain imaging, on display stand with castors (see note), supplied by IGE Medicals Systems, UK, 1990-94

Images of the brain are provided by this detector. It is used as part of a gamma X-ray camera system. It is mounted on a frame when used, which allows it to be moved and then focus on different areas. The detector is made of a flat crystal surface and it connects to equipment which creates an image of the results. It accurately detects radiation so is used to detect low levels which might have been injected into, or inhaled by, a patient. This allows doctors to detect changes in the body which would otherwise be invisible, even under surgical conditions.
