Cocked hat, made of beaver skin, belonging to military surgeon, French, 1830-1914

Worn by a military surgeon, this cocked hat is made from beaver skin and lined with silk. Part of a colourful uniform with plenty of braid, buttons and buckles, it would have become terribly unhygienic over the course of a military campaign.
