Intraocular lenses, 18, and an exhibition model, by Rayner Intraocular Lenses Ltd., Wilbury Villas, Hove, England, c.1979
Made from plastic, these tiny artificial lenses would be inserted into the eye to correct imperfect vision or after cataract surgery. A cataract causes the lens of the eye to become cloudy and can lead to blindness. Once removed, one of these new artificial lens could be implanted.
The lenses were made by Rayner Intraocular Lenses Ltd – ‘intraocular’ means ‘within the eye’.
