Float glass processor, c 1960.

Made:
1960

Model of float glass process, c. 1960. The vast majority of flat glass is now produced by the float process where a stream of molten glass at about 1050 degrees C is spread across the surface of a bath of molten tin and is drawn off at the other end at about 600 degrees C. The advantages of the process include a high degree of light transmission, a range of colours, a range of opacities and good chemical inertness although glass is attacked by hydrofluoric acid.
