GEC 1091 9 inch television receiver

GEC 1091 television receiver, 1949. 9 inch TV with bakelite cabinet. Screen and loudspeaker side by side and of equal size.

A GEC 1091 television receiver with a 9 inch screen, made in England c. 1949.

The advertising for this set explained that viewers did not need to crowd together to watch (because the screen had a wide viewing angle) and that it was not necessary to draw the curtains - as it had a clear bright picture. The bakelite cabinet was more to deal with post-war timber shortages than for design aesthetics. The 1091 cost £54-2-8 (including tax) when new.
