The world’s longest railway station sign. This sign, on the maroon background of British Railways’ London Midland Region, measures 19 feet 3 inches (5.9 metres) long when all its three pieces are put together. The station is on Anglesey and opened in 1848. The name means ‘The Church of St Mary in a hollow of white hazel, near to a rapid whirlpool, and to St Tysilio’s Church near to a red cave’. The name was invented in the 1860s to encourage tourism.
