Wooden carriage, box shaped, with roof composed of two longitudinal, slightly sloping panels which meet down the midline. One of the panels can be lifted away to expose the inside, which is plain. The outside of the carriage has incised and painted/stained decoration showing carriage doors and windows. The distal ends of the carriage are closed. There are small sockets for four buffers, with one wooden buffer loose inside the carriage. Four wooden wheels on two axles are suspended from the underside of the carriage. There are four wooden buffers at the distal ends of the carriage; at one end, both buffers are in the form of removable wooden pegs. This end is also open, giving access to the carriage interior. Three small wooden shutters or panels with metal fastenings were found inside, and may have closed this carriage opening. See 1995-7130/4 for survival of mechanism. Long wooden carriage, box shaped. Roof is slightly pitched down the midline, but formed of one piece of wood which is fixed in place. Four wooden wheels on two axles are suspended from the underside of the carriage. Both distal ends and one side are crudely decorated with incision and staining. The other side has a centrally positioned shutter which folds downwards and outwards, although the hinge part is stiff and fragile, being constituted of a sticky strip. There is a small metal ring at one distal end which retains a thread of string, possibly for joining two carriages. Parts comprise: four small, chunky rectangular metal frames; ridged wooden panel with numbering marked in ink; four wooden axles or spindles (two pairs, of different woods); four circular wooden discs with central hole; seven smaller circular wooden discs with central hole, black in colour, one broken; twelve pieces of wooden dowel, various lengths, some broken; thirteen small screws (rusty); wooden luggage rack with ten 'parcels' inside it, wrapped with paper and string; four additional 'parcels' wrapped in red paper, one retains only a short strip of paper; one tube shaped parcel wrapped in brown paper; miscellaneous small bits which include 31 wooden pieces, one wooden 'peg' buffer, a piece of metal wire, a short length of plastic coated wire, a brass hook, a piece of paper, a strip of cloth/sandpaper, and a stub of a pencil.
