Painting, oil on board, The Visit to Town, At the Modiste's, by Maurice Greiffenhagen, about 1928. Depicts a scene inside a fashion house. One woman strikes a pose dressed in a white dress and shawl, while another woman in a red coat and hat, and a man in a dark suit with a grey topcoat sit on a chaise longue. The man is wearing white gloves and holding a hat and cane. The couple converse with a red-headed woman, dressed in black, who leans over the back of the sofa. The scene, together with a colourful floral shawl, black feather hat and vase, is reflected in a mirror above a mantelpiece. Signed by the artist at bottom right. Framed, unglazed. Artwork for London, Midland & Scottish Railway poster issued in about 1928.
