BBC CMCR 10 Outside Broadcast Vehicle

Made:
1970-1971 in United Kingdom

BBC CMCR 10 outside broadcast vehicle (mobile colour television control room) manufactured by Pye 1970-1971. Registration number AMU 404H. Uses EMI 2001 cameras.

This Colour Mobile Control Room (CMCR) was used as a temporary control room by BBC Leeds during the 1980s before being donated to the National Science and Media Museum.

This mobile unit was made by PYE, and would contain all of the equipment that made up a TV camera (the part we are used to seeing was literally just the head). Marconi and PYE’s work to put the equipment required to film inside a van made it possible to tell more stories from across the UK.
