Specimen of bolting cloth

Specimen of bolting cloth

This is an example of the type of linen cloth used in a bolting mill, mounted on to a framed sieve for separating and grading the flour from the grit, husks etc.

The bakeries used the smaller hand-operated bolting mills, while larger types were used by the millers, and were directly powered from the main mill mechanism.
