Lithograph, The Return (First Class), engraved by W H Simmons after the painting by Abraham Solomon titled First Class, The Meeting, and at First Meeting Loved, 1857. Depicts passengers in a first class railway carriage. A young man in naval uniform leans forward to talk to an elderly gentleman and a young woman, who listen attentively. The gentleman, balding with side whiskers, holds a newspaper in his left hand, and is wearing a glove on his right. The woman is wearing a bonnet and hooded shawl, and is sewing. On the seats are blankets, gloves, a parasol and a bunch of roses. Through the carriage window is a valley with hills and trees. Text below reads "London, Published 4th April 1857, by E Gambart & Co, 25 Berners Street, Oxford Street, Painted by A. Solomon, Engraved by W.H.Simmons, Printed by McQueen". There is a circular seal impression at bottom left which reads "Gambart & Co, London". Mounted on pasteboard.
