Safety cabinet used at the Institute for Animal Health in Edinburgh. This provided a sealed environment in which experiments on spongiform encephalopathy infective tissue could be carried out. Work at this lab on scrapie (a sheep S.E.) enabled rapid progress on BSE at the beginning of the crisis. The lab was also extremely active in BSE research and this cabinet was used in this work until 1998.
