Large wheel engine, signed and dated "John Tipping, Whildon Green, 1751".
This large wheel engine was used to cut the teeth on the edge of clock and watch wheels. This is the earliest known dated tool from Lancashire, the centre of the manufacture of English horological tools during the 1700s.
