Bottle of beer, British Rail InterCity, Celebration Ale, No 081 of limited edition of 500, brewed by Adnams of Southwold in celebration of 21 Years of InterCity catering, 1987.

To celebrate InterCity’s 21st Anniversary British Rail ran, on 1st May 1987, a special service from Euston to Liverpool and return. The passengers were British Rail senior management, BR sales staff, travel agent staff and business customers. The London to Liverpool journey was in MK1 Pullman carriages from 1966 with at seat silver service dining. A trip on a Mersey ferry occurred, then the return journey was in new 1987 Pullman carriages, again with at seat silver service dining. The intent was to compare the old with the much more comfortable new and generate lots of publicity for the new Pullman services. As part of that event this limited-edition bottle of beer was brewed and issued to all passengers.
