A Dearborn test is a problem-solving test. It involves arranging blocks in the shortest amount of time and manoeuvres. Marks are awarded for the time taken and number of moves. According to the instructions, ‘observation should be made on the subjects general method /…/ calmness or excitability, on his deftness or ponderousness of movements and special attention should be paid to difficulties of orientation.’ The wooden form board was produced by American manufacturer C. H. Stoelting and Company. It specialised in aptitude testing equipment. These included books, puzzles and mechanical apparatus.
