Maudslay kept a bench micrometer, nicknamed 'The Lord Chancellor’ as it was considered the ultimate 'court of appeal’ for work in his shops. This small example is not functional since there are no measuring divisions on the hand wheel. It may be a model built to help plan the construction of a larger machine, or a small example that was never completed.
