Portrait, seated in academic cap and gown, holding paper in left hand, right hand raised to face. Sitter unconfirmed but of middle years, very possibly Isambard III, son (1837-1902) and first biographer in 1870 of Isambard Kingdom Brunel; DCL 1871; sometime Chancellor of the Diocese of Ely; the first person to pass through the gap in theThames Tunnel [in father's care 1841]
