[Interior of Pilot Plant Fermenter Room at Dista Products Ltd., Speke] / Alan Stones, 1986. - Oil on canvas; 74x58.5cm in black wood frame, 76.5x61.2x2.2cm. - Signed and dated, bc. - This work was commissioned by the Science Museum for the new Industrial Chemistry gallery as a contribution to National Industry Year 1986. It depicts the contained fermenter in the plant room, with glass window reflections, in the Dista Products Ltd factory at Speke, Merseyside. In 1981 insulin was the first drug to be manufactured by genetic engineering, this process using artificial manipulation of genes of bacteria to produce the required chemical; manufacturer of drugs; fermentation
