Painting, [Woad Mill at Parson Drove] / by Alfred Balding of Wisbech (fl. 1887-1903), c. 1900. Oil on canvas; 87x102cm in gilt frame 109x124.5x7cm. Inside the roller house of the mill at Parson Drove near Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, three crushing wheels are drawn by horses around a circular pan, while workers knead the crushed leaves of woad into balls and carry these to the drying ranges outside. The mill was demolished in 1914.
