Print, engraved portrait, Aaron Rathborne (1572-1618) surveyor, mathematician and map maker, overall: 140x110mm, plate originally from and frontispiece to: 'The Surveyor, Aaron Rathborne', published by William Stansby, London, 1616. Portrait, HL, in lace collar and gown, holding compasses; in oval cartouche with surveying instruments in border. Heading the engraving is ' Aa: Rathborne. Aeta: sue [sic] 44.', with 'QUI IN ME VIVIT PRO ME MORTUUS EST. ANNO SALUTIS NOSTRI 1616.' on the oval cartouche. blc:. monogram, The engraver Simon van der Passe (1595-1647)] was known for his engraving of the American Indian princess Pohahontas.
