Albarello vase, Italian, 18th or 19th century Sicilian polychrome maiolica, used for simple honey of roses
Rhodomel Simplex (Latin for “Simple Honey of Roses”) would have been stored in this earthenware drug jar. The recipe required equal amounts of juices of red roses and honey to be heated together to form a liquid. Intended to cure throat and mouth ulcers, the liquid was probably drunk or applied directly.
