Interlacing sheets of different coloured varnished papier mache, in a ring shape, by Alexander Crum Brown, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, 1912-1914. Described in the Napier Tercentenary Handbook as a knotted anchor ring of interlacing sheet, gradual colours.
A further complexity was added by introducing an anchor ring. The surface of anchor rings could be knotted about both the axis and core, knotted about one and locked about the other, or locked about both.
