Fire-steel (length 2 3/8 ins), with large ornamental hand-hold of cast bronze in form of two demi-mermaids, conjoined at the waist, holding the two ends of some kind of bâton; believed to be of the 16th century; formerly in the Lavedan Collection; figured in Gay's "Gloss. Archéol. du Moyen Age", p. 749. France.
