Tinder-pistol (length 8 1/4 ins) of iron, with straight wooden handle; candle-socket missing; body engraved, with traces of gold inlay remaining in the incised lines; a hunting-scene engraved on lid of tinder-receptacle; probably early 18th century. Italy. [Nos 1047-1075 are all of iron or brass and have wooden butts. All have external mechanisms].
