[One of] Six Boxes (2 1/2 x 1 3/4 x 3/4 ins) of thin chip [only nos 1545 and 1546 acquired]; rectangular; sliding; slide covered with blue paper; exterior covered with plaid paper; one side sanded for friction; on top, a red paper label, printed in black, "Bell & Black's New Patent Gas Camphorated Lights, free from sulphur and emit an agreeable odour. Warranted. Stratford, London, E.," with trade-mark (a bell); contains Matches [similar to a previous example which were round, wooden (length 2 1/8 ins), not sulphur-dipped or varnished, with reddish-brown heads]; date about 1859. England.
