Ross Wheel of Life. Animated slide for magic lantern. Glass disc approx. 80mm diameter (broken) with swimming dolphins (13 phases) and single slot shutter disc, both operated by spring belt and pulley driven from single handle.

A handle turned both a transparent 13-picture disc and a counter-rotating shutter disc with 13 slots to give an illusion of movement on a screen, when projected by a magic lantern. It is a projection version of the Phenakistoscope, patented by Thomas Ross in 1869 and 1871.
