BAE Systems Phoenix unmanned aerial vehicle with optics pod (dummy telescope fitted) and handling trolley, as used by Royal Artillery troops in the Gulf War, 2003 and in the Kosovo conflict, 1999.
Phoenix is a propellar driven monoplane launched from a mobile, pneumatic-hydraulic launcher. It can remain airborne for 4 hours, has a range of 70 km and a ceiling of 2 km. The vehicle utilizes a programmable/autonomous flight conttrol and navigation system. It returns real time thermal imagery via a central optical pod. The vehicle is made almost entirely of composite material and is modular enabling swift assembly and disassembly.
