2 Oxygen cylinders, in wooden case, German, probably 1st World War

Inside these two gas cylinders was highly pressurised oxygen which has only recently been removed (for safety reasons). The cylinders are from a set of eight that were supplied to the German Army during the First World War.

The oxygen was probably inhaled through a face mask by a patient undergoing surgery or by a soldier with breathing difficulties because of a gas attack.
