Newman & Guardia Universal Special Pattern box-form plate camera for 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inch plates. Serial No SB494. Fitted with an Anastigmat lens F:285mm f/12.5-45, convertible. Newman & Guardia shutter 2/4/8/16/32/64/100. Sliding rising and cross front. Rack and pinion focusing, double extension. Two reflecting finders, with hoods and frames for alternative focal length. Two pairs of spirit levels. Bag type plate changer. Ground glass focusing screen. Newman and Guardia. Overall (deployed): 160 mm x 135 mm x 335 mm.

The Special B was one of Newman and Guardia’s most popular models, with over 2000 being made. It was available in four regular sizes, quarter-plate, 4" x 5" and half-plate. A 5 ½" by 3 ½" two focus model was also advertised from 1906. Other models were available to order.
