A photograph of Joe Davis (1901-1978), snooker world champion, in London, taken in November 1954 by an unknown photographer for the Daily Herald.

Davis is pictured practising the game with his new all metal snooker cue, 'Apollo', which he designed himself to replace his old faithful cue. Later, in a match with James Barrie at the Leicester Square Hall in London, he went back to the old cue after losing the first three frames claiming it was due to lack of practise with the new one.
