A photograph of a little girl sitting on a kerb, holding a bottle of pop and eating an ice cream, taken in August 1937 by Harold Tomlin for the Daily Herald.

This little girl is part of a group enjoying a day out at Southend organised by the 'Negro Welfare Association' of London, formed in 1931. These trips were often the only opportunity poor children had to escape the city for a holiday.
