A photograph of workers in a flag-making factory, taken in April 1945 by Nixon for the Daily Herald.

With the end of the war against Germany in sight, Britain was preparing to celebrate VE (Victory in Europe) Day. The photograph shows factory workers on Commercial Road in the East End of London making flags and banners for the celebration. In the background, national flags bear the faces of the Allied war leaders - Joseph Stalin (1879-1953), Winston Churchill (1874-1965) and Franklin D Roosevelt (1882-1945).
