An albumen print photograph entitled 'Beatrice', taken by Julia Margaret Cameron in 1866. The print forms part of the Herschel Album.

The print forms part of the Herschel Album, created by Cameron for her friend Sir John Herschel (1792-1871). The model for the photograph is Mary Emily Prinsep (1853-1931). The photograph portrays Beatrice Cenci, a character in Percy Bysshe Shelley's (1792-1822) play 'The Cenci' (1819). The play was based on the true story of Beatrice Cenci, a sixteenth century Italian woman who ran away after plotting the death of her tyrannical father. She was caught and executed in 1599.
