A photograph entitled 'Prince Kung', taken by Felice Beato in 1860.

Prince Kung, or Prince Gong (1833-1898), was the younger brother of the Emperor of China. In the year that this photograph was taken, Prince Gong had been ordered by his brother to remain in Beijing to negotiate with the British and French Armies during the Second Opium War. After photographing events during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859), Beato was sent to China to document the Second Opium War.
