A photograph of the fortifications of Beijing taken by Felice Beato in 1860.

The photograph is annotated 'Top of the wall, from Anting Gate, Pekin, taken possession by English and French troops October 21st 1860'. In October 1860, during the Second Opium War, a combined Anglo-French expeditionary force captured Beijing and proceeded to ransack the city.
