Platinum print photograph entitled 'Advertisement with Carmen', by Horst P Horst, New York, 1946. The model is Carmen dell'Orefice at the age of 15 (born 1931).

Horst P. Horst (1906 - 1999) was one of the most influential fashion photographers of the 20th century. Mostly remembered for his work with Vogue during the 1930s and 40s Horst's career spanned sixty years and his name became synonymous with dramatic lighting, classical styling, elegance and romance. He is regarded as a master of light and shadow, and is noted for his bold, experimental approach.

Horst's modernist compositions, which were sometimes abstracted, represented a major development in fashion photography. Horst's interest in classical imagery and poses can be seen in this photograph, which also demonstrates surrealist influences.
