Nokia 8850 mobile phone, manufactured by Nokia, Finland, 1999-2003.
As the twenty-first century arrived mobile devices were becoming widely established as pieces of personal technology. The mobile phone industry was targeting fashion conscious young adults by building attractive features into their phones. The Nokia 8850, part of Nokia’s 8800 series designed by Frank Nuovo, illustrates that shift. Nuovo aimed to produce mobile phones that were reminiscent of jewellery. He also drove some of Nokia’s interface design which was simple and designed not to be intimidating to non-technical users.
